National Geographic "Geotourism" Destination in Wolong

In 2006, Panda Mountain founder Marc Brody started working with the National Geographic Society as a grantee for his work to conserve giant pandas and their habitat in and around China’s Wolong Nature Reserve.

Panda Mountain works in Wolong Nature Reserve to conserve and restore giant Panda habitat.

We work alongside a coalition of Sichuan government agencies and research institutes,

Chengdu area unversities, and Wolong villagers.

Together, we are designing and facilitating an ecological restoration program in Wolong,

helping to initiate a long-term process so Wolong can protect its biodiversity

and ensure wild Pandas will have a home in the future.

Projects in Wolong

Panda Mountain Honey Project

Panda Mountain, as part of its work to enable the local Wolong communicty to be financially sustainable, is planning and creating a project, which will see the local community producing honey under the lable 'Panda Valley Honey'. 

Cultural and Social Programs to Benefit the People of Wolong

Preservation (including archaeological field studies) of Wolong's remaining sacred sites and historical temples is one way to respect and maintain the rich indigenous culture of the region.

Giant Panda Habitat Restoration and Rehabilitation

Panda Mountain restores giant Panda habitat through a Japanese Larch replacement program.

Native Plant Restoration Nurseries

This Program researches and documents key native plant species, and develop a Reference Field Guide of key species as part of a long-term forest landscape restoration program.

Ecological Restoration Training

Throughout 2015, Panda Mountain will be running forest restoration training programs based in Wolong for area protection staff, academics, and whoever else would like to join us and learn.
